You may have heard of Wi-Fi 6E recently, and it still feels bleeding edge at the start of 2022. Guess what? Companies have already directed their focus on the upcoming Wi-Fi 7 standard. IEEE plans to publish the 802.11be amendment (Wi-Fi 7) sometime in 2024, with commercial deployment co-occurring. Then, just like Wi-Fi 6 and 6E, the Wi-Fi Alliance will release its Wi-Fi 7 certification program to ensure interoperability and security standards.
The most appealing feature of Wi-Fi 7 is that it might make wired Ethernet connections obsolete for super high-bandwidth applications.
Mediatek has already boasted its Wi-Fi 7 Filogic technology that can achieve the maximum speed defined by IEEE 802.11be and demonstrates its multi-link operation (MLO) technology. In a press statement, the company said it showed off the "super-fast speeds and low latency transmission" of its Wi-Fi 7 Filogic technology to "key customers and industry collaborators." Wi-Fi 7, as shown in MediaTek's demo, will deliver 2.4 times more speed than Wi-Fi 6, even using the same number of antennas.
